Today BlueScope has announced the winners of the Health & Safety Excellence Awards for 2020.
Each year these awards highlight a snapshot of our focus to keep our workplaces safe, and the innovative ways our people approach health and safety solutions.
The disruptions to our normal ways of working caused by the pandemic have only served to demonstrate the agility and readiness of BlueScope people to adapt to changing circumstances without ever losing focus on the need to protect ourselves, our teams, our families and our communities from harm.
This quality in BlueScope people is what our safety excellence awards are all about.

We have chosen to announce our award winners today as it is World Day for Safety and Health at Work, established by the International Labour Organisation in 2003 as a reminder for us all to reflect on how to prevent work-related occupational diseases, deaths, injuries, and illnesses, and remember those who have died from a work-related injury or illness.
In 2014 World Steel adopted this day as Steel Safety Day to help create a safer working environment across the steel industry and reinforce awareness of the five most common causes of safety incidents: moving machinery, working at heights, falling objects, on-site traffic, and process safety incidents. Each year, one of the five causes is highlighted to raise awareness of the cause and how to prevent associated risks, with this year’s focus on moving machinery. Thanks to everyone at BlueScope who participated in business unit health and safety programs during 2020, all working towards our common goal of helping make our workplaces healthier and safer.
